Spirit Airways Inc. mentioned it will entertain JetBlue Airways Corp.’s unsolicited $3.6 billion bid to purchase the airline and begin talks with its new suitor.
Spirit had already struck a $2.9 billion merger settlement with Frontier Group Holdings Inc., one other finances airline, when JetBlue swooped in with a competing supply. Spirit mentioned its board has decided that JetBlue’s supply “might moderately be prone to result in a ‘superior proposal’”—one thing that enables it to enter into talks with JetBlue beneath the phrases of its merger settlement.
